Aldenham’s existing website was dated, difficult to navigate and even harder to manage and update. The School has always prided itself on its pulling power to attract new students and needed a high-quality website to help boost open day numbers and prospective parent visits. To achieve this, it had to portray the School as a modern and charming place to learn, whilst maintaining its heritage and traditions that date back to 1597. Also, they needed a very easy CMS (Content Management System) to enable various departments to manage and upload their own specific information.

To find the perfect balance between old and new, we channelled a great deal of thought into the typeface and colours that made up the School’s branding. Requiring a versatile typeface, we settled on the Tisa family; the serif version is a beautiful modern classic and ideal for both contemporary and heritage connotations. The sans-serif worked very well, and using its bold weights we added a warm, fun feeling to the typography. The type and the combination of School brand colours with dark tones, resulted in the precise look Aldenham were after.

Secondly, we re-organised the current school site map into sections. This allows visitors to go on a journey through the website, discovering the School’s highlights along the way and finishing up on a page inviting them to ‘Book a Visit’.

Dark Blue were superb in approaching the challenge of creating five new websites for our schools across Hertfordshire. Their inventive solutions allowed us to provide excellent marketing opportunity for the brand. Too many web design houses simply have 'off the shelf' solutions which may not completely fit what you need. Dark Blue responded creatively to our brief and were the only company in the bidding process to actually offer what we said we needed, instead of what they 'wanted' to provide. Dark Blue achieved our goals admirably and we will certainly work with them again in the future as The Aldenham Foundation continues to grow.
